Birmingham Cathedral
Birmingham Cathedral
As the third smallest cathedral in the UK, St Philip’s Cathedral in Birmingham has an artistic and architectural merit which far exceeds its diminutive stature.
The Role of a Cathedral Architect
As the Cathedral Architect, Kathryn Harris is one of the small but friendly team who look after this building. Her responsibilities include the five yearly condition survey; attending Fabric Advisory Committee meetings and reporting to Chapter; and contributing to teams’ future vision for the site, including the journey to decarbonisation.
Selected projects include
Writing and leading consultation for the National Lottery Heritage Fund Conservation Management Plan and conservation of the exceptionally significant windows.
Re-ordering and refurbishing the south vestry to provide contemporary office accommodation for the Cathedral staff (including joinery design).
Ongoing advice – from safe roof access to the future organ project.
